“His soldier was sleeping on the airport floor so this military dog took it upon himself to provide protection”
Soldiers often have to sleep in uncomfortable surroundings. When they are deployed, in training, and traveling, chances to rest can be few and far between. Fortunately for this soldier, a special guardian ensured the soldier could rest easy before their flight.
A photographer was traveling through an airport in Indianapolis, Indiana when he noticed something that made him stop in his tracks. There was a group of about 10 soldiers trying to get some rest before their next flight.
The soldiers were sprawled out on the floor with all their gear nearby. Used to sleeping in uncomfortable surroundings, they were clearly tired and in need of some rest. However, one soldier wasn’t sleeping at all.
Rather, this soldier was wide awake. An alert military dog was seen protecting his soldier while the soldier slept. The dog was draped over the back of their handler, guarding them while they got what rest they could.
The photographer was so touched by the tender scene that he felt compelled to take these images, which have now gone viral on social media. He said there were about 10 soldiers with 2 military dogs in the airport at the same time as him that day.
The image brings to mind the tender relationship these amazing military dogs have with their handlers. Serving side-by-side they’d risk their lives to protect the soldiers they serve with, and sometimes do.
Fortunately, on this day, the soldier and dog were both in a safe place, yet one has to wonder where they are going. Are they heading home or heading out into danger? We don’t know but what we do know is that we are thankful for their service and no one is about to steal that soldier’s luggage on that day!
